Ohohia Diaspora Passes Vote of Confidence in OGA Executive Led by Chief Oscar Angus Okorie

OHOHIA, Obi Mbieri - IMO STATE — Ohohia indigenes residing across the Diaspora have unanimously passed a Vote of Confidence in the elected Executive of the Ohohia General Assembly (OGA), led by Chief Oscar Angus Okorie, reaffirming support for the administration’s commitment to constitutional governance, democratic accountability, and community development.

The statement, issued by Ohohia sons and daughters living abroad and signed by Chibuike Oparaugo on behalf of Ohohia in Diaspora, comes amid discussions on governance and community affairs within Ohohia and the broader Obi-Mbieri Autonomous Community.

According to the statement, the Diaspora community reached its decision after reviewing recent developments affecting the community, including the June 17, 2026, communication issued by the Imo State Government through the Office of the Traditional Institution and Community Policing.

Support Rooted in Constitutional Legitimacy

The group emphasised that its endorsement of the OGA Executive was founded on constitutional legitimacy, transparency, accountability, community participation, and respect for the collective will of the people.

The statement noted that the recent intervention by the Imo State Government, which reaffirmed due process and lawful authority in community affairs, underscored the need for all stakeholders to operate within recognised constitutional and legal frameworks.

According to the Diaspora body, the government's position reinforces the view that authority must derive from established and legally recognised institutions rather than from actions undertaken outside constitutional procedures.

"The legitimacy of leadership flows from the constitution, the mandate of the people, and adherence to established democratic processes," the statement said.

Commendation for OGA Leadership

The Diaspora community praised the administration of Chief Oscar Angus Okorie for its commitment to peace, unity, transparency, and responsible leadership.

The group specifically commended the Executive for promoting stability within Ohohia, supporting evidence-based development initiatives, encouraging accountability in community affairs, and safeguarding the rights and interests of Ohohia citizens.

The statement further acknowledged efforts to preserve Ohohia's historical identity and integrity while strengthening cooperation between residents at home and indigenes living abroad.

Observers say such collaboration remains important as Diaspora communities continue to contribute financially, intellectually, and strategically to local development efforts.

Call for Respect for Democratic Institutions

The Diaspora group stressed that lasting development can only be achieved where the rule of law is respected and duly elected leadership is allowed to perform its constitutional responsibilities without undue interference.

The statement rejected attempts to undermine the democratic mandate of the elected OGA Executive or replace constitutionally recognised institutions with structures lacking legal legitimacy.

Community stakeholders noted that disputes over governance and representation should be resolved through established constitutional and legal channels rather than through actions that could create division or instability.

Commitment to Ohohia's Future

Reaffirming its dedication to the welfare of the community, Ohohia indigenes in the Diaspora pledged continued support for initiatives to improve education, youth empowerment, security, infrastructure, and overall welfare.

The group expressed confidence that sustained collaboration between residents and Diaspora stakeholders would accelerate development and strengthen social cohesion within Ohohia.

Call for Unity

In its concluding remarks, the Diaspora body urged all sons and daughters of Ohohia, regardless of political affiliation or personal differences, to unite behind justice, constitutional governance, peace, and community progress.

The statement maintained that collective commitment to lawful processes and democratic values remains essential to securing a prosperous future for present and future generations of Ohohia people.

By endorsing Chief Oscar Angus Okorie and the elected Executive of the Ohohia General Assembly, the Diaspora community signalled continued support for constitutional order, accountability, unity, and sustainable development within Ohohia.

"May peace, unity, and development continue to flourish in Ohohia," the statement concluded.
