In Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, the Umunna Development Association has — without any government funding — built a 2.4km access road, renovated a primary school, and established a micro-finance cooperative that has disbursed over ₦12 million in small business loans in the past two years.

"We stopped waiting for the government," says Chidubem Ogbukwo, the association's secretary. "Our people needed this road. We levied ourselves, organized, and built it. Now our children can walk to school safely."
