Youths are leaders of tomorrow. A very popular statement and many of us use that statement over three times a day. Youths are followers of tomorrow. How often do we also use this statement daily? The irony here is that many want to be leaders and not followers. Or let me put it this way, many are leaders and not followers and want to remain leaders for life. They want to be the one to make all the laws and they will never obey the laws. Leadership and followership is another topic and I will leave it here for another day.
As leaders or followers of tomorrow, how prepared are the youths of Obi Mbieri? What kind of leaders and followers Obi Mbieri youths want to be tomorrow? Leaders or followers with no work, no skill, no profession and no business? Do Obi Mbieri youths want to be leaders and followers with enough information and education that they can never be manipulated? If the youths of Obi Mbieri want to be the leaders and followers of tomorrow, the preparation starts now.
Anyone going to war without adequate preparation is already doomed to lose that war. The Obi Mbieri youths should arm themselves with tools that will empower them to lead or/and follow tomorrow. What are those tools?
Education and information. Get educated in one or two professions. Get informed. In today’s world education and information is no longer by going to conventional higher institutions. With just a phone and internet connection for example you can get educated on one or two professions. When I say profession here I mean skill. Self – educate yourself on a few skills that you can monetise. For example you can self-educate yourself on video making and video editing. You can self educate yourself on website development and social media marketing. You can self educate yourself on graphic design and monetise it online. If you are talented in teaching a particular subject or course you can also monetise it and make money online. Whatever is your passion you can monetise that passion and make money online. All you need to do is package your profile and upload it to job sites such as https://www.fiverr.com, and https://www.upwork.com/, set up a payment method to receive your payment. You can create a paypal account paypal.com and link your paypal account to a Nigeria account. Then keep improving on your skill, the more you do that the more money you make.
The more you improve on your skills, the more you are already learning by doing. You are learning how to be patient, you are learning how to work hard, you are learning how to do legal things and operate within the framework of the law. There is dignity in labor. You learn to be independent and never be influenced by anyone. You learn to think independently. You learn to stay away from the opinion cult and have your own view of how Obi Mbier should be. You learn that success can never come in one day, success is a process. You learn to key into that process. You learn how not to be influenced and manipulated. Your confidence levels grow and you understand yourself more. This is what preparation should look like for Obi Mbieri youths to take up that mantle of leadership or followership in Obi Mbeiri tomorrow.
We understand that the youths of Obi Mbieri stand at a critical crossroads right now in our community. As the youths are the strength and future of our community, we must recognize that violence does not build Obi Mbieri—it destroys it. Time and again, youths are manipulated, provoked, or financially induced to carry out acts of violence that serve the selfish interests of only a few, while leaving lasting pain for families, neighbors, and the entire community.
We must say no to being used as tools of destruction. No amount of money, promise, or political favor is worth the loss of lives, freedom, or dignity. When violence erupts, it is the youths who are arrested, injured, or killed, while those who instigated the chaos walk free and untouched.
True strength is not found in fighting, burning, or intimidating others. True strength is found in wisdom, restraint, dialogue, and unity. Obi Mbieri needs youths who are builders, not destroyers; peacemakers, not weapons in the hands of desperate individuals.
Violence robs us of opportunities. It damages our reputation, scares away development, and deepens poverty. Roads, schools, businesses, and investments cannot thrive where fear reigns. By choosing peace, we protect our future and open doors to progress.
We call on all of us to commit ourselves to rejecting hate, resisting provocation, and resolving conflicts through lawful and peaceful means. Let us hold accountable those who attempt to incite violence and instead channel our energy into education, entrepreneurship, community service, and leadership.
The future of Obi Mbieri belongs to its youths. Let us defend that future with unity, wisdom, and peace—not violence.
