In a development that many people in Obi Mbieri describe as reminiscent of recurring act since 2019, a reporter from Eziokwubundu.com witnessed the reported suspension of Omume 11 of Umuomume of Umuomume village in Umuahii town from the palace of Ezeukwu I of Obi Mbieri on February 23, 2026.
According to accounts from the palace, the decision followed a discussion that reportedly took an unexpected turn. He stated that while allegations were made against him regarding media publications, no specific evidence or references were provided to support the claims that those media publications were against the Eze.
Clarifying his position, Omume 11 emphasized that Eziokwubundu.com operates as an independent media platform under Obi Mbieri Independent Media LTD. He acknowledged his role as one of the company’s directors but stressed that editorial decisions are made independently and should not be attributed to him personally.
He further expressed concern that the action taken against him could discourage open dialogue within the community and moreover expose the Ezeukwu 1 palace weakness and lack of the ability to engage in a constructive debate on the real issues that matter most to Obi Mbieri people. According to him, constructive engagement and the ability to address sensitive issues transparently are essential for maintaining unity and progress in Obi Mbieri. He added that bullying and intimidation strategies being used by the Eze said Eze said leader Chief Martins Onyeugo is counter-productive and could create more crises. .
Omume 11 also reaffirmed his respect and loyalty for the traditional ruler the Ezeukwu 1 of Obi Mbieri, describing the Eze as a father figure to the community. He maintained that expressing honest opinions should not be interpreted as opposition but rather as part of a healthy and respectful relationship between leadership and community members.
He added that nobody is against Eze (Elder) Dr. J. N Osuji, the Ezeukwu 1 of Obi Mbieri autonomous community and Obi Mbieri people should not fall for such cheap narratives.“Claims that certain individuals are opposed to the Eze should be treated with caution, as they are misleading. Such narratives serve as a distraction from the real issues confronting the Obi Mbieri autonomous community and may divert attention away from meaningful dialogue and solutions”. He said
Additionally, he noted that efforts to obtain a formal letter of suspension were unsuccessful, raising questions about the procedural basis of the decision.
