Proposed Town Union Election in Obi Mbieri Suspended Pending Further Directives – Hon. Ifunanya Nwanegwo

The proposed Town Union election in Obi Mbieri Autonomous Community has been officially suspended following a directive from the Chairman of Mbaitoli Local Government Area, Hon. Ifunanya Nwanegwo.

In a letter addressed to the Ezeukwu I of Obi Mbieri Autonomous Community, Eze (Elder) Dr. J. N. Osuji, and copied to the Traditional Prime Minister of Obi Mbieri Chief Prof. Kyrian Ndikom, Hon. Nwanegwo formally notified the traditional institution of the decision to halt the planned election process.

According to the communication, the suspension followed consultations with the relevant ministries of the Imo State Government responsible for overseeing Town Union elections across autonomous communities. After the deliberations, a clear directive was issued instructing that the proposed election in Obi Mbieri be put on hold until further notice.

The Mbaitoli Council Chairman explained that the decision was taken in the broader interest of maintaining peace, order, and stability within the Obi Mbieri community.

He further stressed the importance of ensuring that all community electoral processes are conducted in accordance with established laws, guidelines, and constitutional provisions guiding Town Union administration in Imo State.

Community stakeholders have welcomed the development as an opportunity for further consultations and clarification of outstanding issues, while many residents continue to call for calm, unity, and respect for due process as the community navigates the situation.
