Owo Umuahii is a cultural festival and not a political event. Stakeholders warned!

Owo Umuahii is a biennial (every two years) cultural festival celebrated by the Umuahii people. It showcases traditional dances, masquerades, music, attire, food, and community heritage, and it’s also a time for reunion and honoring ancestors of Umuahii people.

Stakeholders have issued a strong warning against politicising the celebration. In the just concluded Owo celebration on the december 28th, 2025 and december 30th, 2025. A lot of things happened before and during the celebration and stakeholders have warned that if those behaviors are not checked and corrected it will jeopardise the essence of the Owo celebration and possibly destroy the Owo Umuahii cultural heritage. 

In the issue that happened on December 30th, 2025 that got the Owo Chairman detained at the Owo area commander police station on January 1, 2026. What escalated the issue was just mere individual ego and power tussle. Stakeholders warned that when individual ego and power tussles take center, the true spirit of the Owo Umuahii is lost.

Stakeholders warned that Umuahii ancestors are wise and their spirits are alive and watching. The spirit will fight for itself.
