Eziokwubundu.com reports that it received a letter ( Letterhead number 188 ) purportedly written and issued by Ezeukwu I of Obi Mbieri Eze (Elder) Dr. J. N. Osuji), dated December 17, 2023, and addressed to HRH Eze George E. Ekeh, Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Mbaitoli LGA.

In the letter, the Ezeukwu 1 of Obi Mbieri reportedly referenced ongoing health challenges affecting his ability to fully discharge his duties as the Eze of Obi Mbieri autonomous community and introduced and authorized his son, Prince Kester Chinwendu Osuji, to engage and hold meetings with Eze’s cabinet and represent him.

However, findings from independent inquiries suggest that there is no clear provision within the Obi Mbieri Constitution that authorizes a traditional ruler to delegate such responsibilities—particularly leadership of the Eze’s Cabinet—to a family member. Community observers have described the development as unprecedented and one that requires careful scrutiny within the framework of established laws and customs.

Further concerns have emerged regarding the authenticity of the document origin. Who in the Eze palace wrote this letter? Is it the Eze that wrote this letter? Questions have been raised about its origin, structure, and presentation, with some stakeholders pointing to irregularities in formatting and language. These observations have prompted calls for verification to determine whether the letter genuinely emanated from the Eze.

The Ezes listed as recipients of the correspondence include several recognized traditional rulers within Mbieri – HRH Eze Peter C. Opara (Umueze Mbieri), HRH Eze Henry Madumere (Ezi Mbieri), HRH Eze C A C Eronini (Awo Mbieri), HRH Eze Charles Emeruom (Amaike Mbieri), HRH Eze F E Agunwa ( Obazu Mbieri), HRH Eze V C Achilike (Ihitte Mbieri), adding to the significance of the matter and the need for clarity.

Beyond the document itself, the situation has fueled broader conversations within the community about succession, governance, and adherence to due process. Many Obi Mbieri people and stakeholders have expressed concern over what they perceive as premature or unclear succession discussions and plans.

As the discussions evolve, many people in the Obi Mbieri autonomous community maintain that unity, transparency, and strict respect for constitutional provisions and traditional values must guide any decisions concerning leadership and the future of the community.

In a related development, questions are also being raised regarding roles and decision-making processes within the Ezeukwu 1 palace structure, with stakeholders calling for greater clarity to ensure alignment with the community’s constitution and governance principles.
